Great Box! (Narrow Build Choices)

It's an excellent box if you're using an LFOC and stock connectors. It's a little harder to work with if you're straying away from that. In my case I installed a Thor300. I originally wanted to stray even further, but this particular box is very much targeted for a specific build. For instance, for the charge port you'll have to use an XLR. I originally wanted to use GX16 but inevitably opted for a 4 pin XLR connector as I'd rather not design my own 3D printable adapter. Like the Thor, other controllers may not align with the mounting holes for the LFOC. I was lucky enough to find something that worked for my controller. Other than my unconventional choice of a controller in this box and it's fairly limited build paths it's a solid box! A much needed upgrade from the converted stock XR box I'd been using before it. I am thankful for the machined plate to replace the Molex with a gland. That was a great idea for folks taking a more adventurous approach! The locking nuts for the power button and charge port were also really well designed and appreciated! 🙌

For anyone looking, do note that some homework will be necessary. You can't just throw in an LFOC and call it good, you'll also need to source all of the connectors from the charge port, power button, switchcraft connectors for the motor and footpad as well as the motor and battery harness molex connectors. (If you don't opt to use the included plate to use a gland.)
I'd suggest checking out PEVDispensary, ATLOWSHOP and Maker's PEV for the parts. Fair warning though, you may need to pick up some Torx bits and other odds and ends as well! It's a project afterall. There will be hurdles. 🤪

Concerns? Questions? Final Comments?
The lid screws being Torx really threw me off. As there wasn't a bit included in the kit, I really had to sift through my collection of tools and bits to find one. Thankfully I had one from a set I'd purchased when doing work on my Pint some time ago. I got right to the point of sealing everything up and realized I didn't have the bit ready. Panic set in for a moment but I prevailed. 🥴

I do also believe an extra sticker or two should be included for the bottom of the box. The second you damage it, you're opening yourself up to water ingress and debris. I slapped another sticker over any of the damage I'd caused during the building process. I imagine it should hold for now. 🙏

The included 3D prints were nice. My criticism about the mudguard is that it's a bit thick. Which is typically a good thing right? It created a really tight and tricky way of routing the wires for the switchcraft connectors. My footpad connector was not pleased, but with some force I was able to get it to align! 🙏

FO;MF! 🤙

Put the FOCer in "The Box"

"The Box" is a great drop in replacement for those aging 3d printed boxes currently housing your little FOCers. The fact that it's anodized and able to mount with thermal paste will allow for running other motors such as SuperFlux or Cannon Core without issue (You'll just need to get a 6pin molex to gland adapter or something similar). The way the power switch and charge port XLR nuts were designed is probably my favorite thing about the design. I do wish there were a bit more space inside and I'm not a huge fan of the molex ports, but at least TFL provided a gland adapter for the 16 pin side.

One thing that is worth noting and should be put somewhere on the description (unless I missed it) is to make sure you use all 6 screws or seal any screw holes you don't use as they are tapped all the way through and just sealed with a sticker on the back.

Great work TFL team! A premium replacement for all those aging 3DP FOC boxes out there.

The Box - Review

The box is nearly perfect. The only downside is that there isn't an adapter included for using a Higo connector (Superflux connector) if you would want to use that type of connector instead of the 6-pin molex motor plug that is standard on hypercore motors. I understand that 3d printing exists, but it would be cool to see a little CNC'ed adapter plate similar to the battery molex connector that IS included. Just add the superflux adapter plate and this is the PERFECT product.
